In fact:

The Legit Ways to Make Money Online in this post will help you to make extra $500, $1,000, $5,000 and more.

And today I’m going to show you the exact Best Legit Ways to Make some extra money.

You can click each link to jump to a particular section.

#1. Build a Niche Blog.

A blog is an online journal or website that includes your thoughts or expertise on a particular subject such as food, fashion, or travel. A lot of people start a blog as a way to express their views or as a creative outlet.

However, there are many cases of people not only earning a living from their blogs but even turning them into massive companies, like the Huffington Post.

These tips will lead you in the right direction. To make money from a blog, you update it regularly with interesting and useful content so people will visit your blog, allowing you to build your traffic and grow your readership.

Once you’ve built a steady stream of traffic, you can monetize you blog:

  • Paid advertising
  • Selling your own courses and products
  • Selling affiliate products

#2. Google Adsense.

If you’ve visited any website, you’ve seen Google ads.

These ads are everywhere, and for good reason. Not only are they easy to set up on any basic website, but they can be lucrative once your website starts bringing in a steady amount of traffic.

One of the cool things about Google AdSense is that it’s so easy to get set up. If you have a blog or website, you can sign up for a free Google AdSense Account.

From there, Google will give you a unique code that you will paste onto your website. Google takes it from there, tracking your page views, traffic, and earnings on your behalf.

There is no upkeep or maintenance to get this thing going, which makes it a no-brainer if you have a website already.

How much will you make? I think my best month with Google AdSense was almost $5,000 over the last ten years.

#3. Start an eCommerce Site

eCommerce sites have exploded in popularity in recent years. With the prevalence of platforms like WordPress and WooCommerce, creating an eCommerce site couldn’t be easier.

If you prefer dealing with physical products and selling something tangible, then opening up an eCommerce store could be a great fit.

There are two different methods of running a successful online store:

  1. Creating and selling a niche physical product to a dedicated group of buyers
  2. Purchasing cheaper goods manufactured in foreign countries, repackaging them, and selling them at a markup.

The first approach can be very successful, but it does require a passion for the product and the willingness to do a ton of research, product development, and testing.

However, such success of stores like SkinnyMe TeaBeardbrand, and Ratio Coffee shows that you can reach the incredible results with your eCommerce store.

If the first approach seems a little risky for your first online business, then you might consider the second option of reselling popular overseas products.

This method involves sourcing a popular product from a platform like AliExpress, repacking the product, and selling it through your own storefront.

Beyond selling the right products you’ll also need to think about how you’re going to ship your products. You can personally handle shipping and order fulfilment yourself.

Or, you can employ a popular method called drop shipping, where the manufacturer handles it for you.

#4. Online Courses.

If you have any skill you can teach others, it’s also possible to set up an online course you can market online.

You can find online courses that teach anything from cooking to marketing or even freelance writing.

Heck, I even offer my own course for financial advisors who want to take their businesses online— The Online Advisor Growth Formula.

Last year, I profiled my friend Joseph Michael of Easy Course Creation. Michael offers several different courses, including courses on a writing software called “Scrivener.”

Over the years, Michael has earned six figures or more annually selling courses that help people achieve the kind of success he has earned.

Most people set up their online course through a platform like Teachable.com.

With Teachable, you can upload your course materials and use the platform to manage customers and accept payments.

#5. Do Freelancing Jobs

If you have a marketable skill—like writing, designing, web development, marketing, project management, or anything else—one of the easiest ways to make sustainable extra money online is to start freelancing.

And while freelancing might not be as scalable as some of the other ideas we’ve spoken about, it’s not uncommon for solopreneurs to build healthy six-figure freelance businesses for themselves. (In fact, I’ve interviewed tons of them on my podcast!)

There’s plenty of work and clients to be found.

If you know where to look. To start, you need to know if there is enough demand for your skill to make it worth the effort to go out looking for work.

Start by searching for freelance postings on sites like FlexjobsSolidGigsContena or one of the dozens of other skill-specific freelance job boards.

#6. Create a Membership Site.

Membership sites have exploded in popularity recently and the idea is easy enough to implement. It does, however, require having an existing audience of some sort.

For example, Mark Manson runs a popular self-development blog.

On his site, there’s a membership portion that gives users access to online courses, videos, and additional article commentary. For fans of his work, it’s a great deal.

People are already visiting your website because they like what you write about and how you use your style. So, you can create a membership section of your site that offers premium content.

Now, every single person who visits your site won’t take you up on the offer, but your dedicated fans will find it irresistible.

The type of membership site you create will depend upon the kind of site you run and the level of depth you want to go with your premium content.

If you like the idea, check out our guide on how to create a membership website using WordPress.

#7. Podcasting.

Another way to make money online is by hosting an online podcast.

I have the Good Financial Cents podcast to go along with my blog, and I use that platform to find new sponsors and advertisers all the time.

I still remember getting my first sponsor on the podcast and finding out they were willing to pay $8,000 for me to include a short clip at the beginning of each podcast for 90 days.

That was insanely exciting to me at the time since I wasn’t sure I would be able to monetize my podcast that much at first.

However, there are tons of people making a lot more than me on their podcasts. Take the Entrepreneur On Fire Podcast hosted by John Lee Dumas.

According to the show’s most recent income report, this podcast brought in a net income of over $400,000 in March 2018. Now, that’s crazy.

The key to getting ahead with podcasting is finding your niche, growing an audience, and then finding ways to monetize and connect with sponsors.

This isn’t the easiest way to make money online since there are a lot of logistics that go into writing, recording, and editing a podcast, but it is still worth considering.

#8. Launch a YouTube Channel.

While YouTube recently changed its monetization program, if you’re able to hit their new minimum bar of 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of view time in the past 12 months, it’s still an incredible place to make extra money online.

YouTube is arguably the world’s second largest search engine (after Google) and is the third most-visited site in the world. In 2017, almost 5 billion videos were watched on YouTube every single day!

Rather than making money through subscriptions, YouTube channels are based on a traditional advertising system. Meaning the more viewers you get, the more you make.

Once you’re approved for the YouTube Partner Program and can start including ads on your videos, with every 1,000 views, you will make approximately $2-$4.

Which might not seem like a lot, but if you have 100 videos with 5,000 views a month each, that would be $1,000–$2,000 already.

Just imagine if your videos start hitting millions of views!

#9. Book Sales.

While the publishing industry used to be heavy in print, you can complete the entire process of writing, publishing, and marketing a book online these days.

Websites like Create Space will let you upload and take your book to print without getting a formal publisher involved, and you can even get your book on Amazon.com so people can buy it there.

A blogger I know named Joseph Hogue has a successful blog (My Work from Home Money) and a thriving book publishing business.

Hogue has written several books he has published online to create an ongoing source of passive income.

He says he averages about 685 books sold per month to bring in an average of $1,857 in revenue. Not bad, huh?

If you think you could write a book people would want to buy, this is a smart strategy to consider since the start-up costs can be minimal and you probably already have a computer and word processing software anyway.

#10. Buy and Sell Domain Names.

You can also buy and resell domain names, just as you would a website.

Use tools like Just Dropped to purchase a unique domain name. Then, re-list the domain names, wait for buyers and sell them for profit.

Some people have been able to make hundreds or thousands of dollars per year employing this exact strategy.

#11. Lead Sales.

Another way to make money online is by collecting leads. The main steps you need to complete to make lead sales work include setting up a website, getting traffic to that website, and making sure you’re collecting leads that someone will actually pay for.

Here’s a good example of how lead sales can work in real life:

My second website, Life Insurance by Jeff, brings in a ton of traffic from people who are searching the web to find answers to life insurance questions.

While I used to have the website set up so I could sell these people life insurance myself, it was a lot of work to process all the different requests and clients.

As a result, I started selling the leads I gathered instead.

Basically, lead buyers are willing to pay for the personal information I gather from people who visit my website.

This is a win-win for everyone since I get paid for the leads and my website visitors are connected with someone who can help them.

Keep in mind though, you can sell leads in many different industries —not just life insurance.

Really, you just need to figure out a niche, build a website and traffic, and see how much you can get for the leads you collect.

#12. Test Websites.

You probably have a pretty strong idea of what makes a good website. Is the design clean and easy to navigate?

Does the content make sense?

Luckily, there are plenty of people out there who want to hear your thoughts. And they’ll even pay you decent money for it (most sites pay ~$10 per 20 minutes, or ~$30 per hour!)

To test these websites, you’ll be asked to visit the site in question and record your reactions and thoughts as you go through it.

To get started making extra money online by testing websites, sign up for some of the most popular services like UserTesting.comUserlyticsTryMyUIUserfeel, or TestingTime (for people outside the U.S).

#13. Narrate Audiobooks.

The audiobook industry is booming, yet only 5% of books ever get made into audio format.

If you’ve got a background in acting, or if people have said you’ve got a voice made for the radio, you can make extra money recording audio versions of independent and popular books.

Sites like ACX connect authors with audiobook performers. So, whether you’re an author looking for more ways to sell your book, or an actor/voice actor looking to make some extra income, you can sell your services online.

#14. Freelance Writing.

Income Potential:  $500-$10,000+ per month

In a freelance writing side hustle, print or online publications pay you to produce quality content for their websites.

This content may be in the form of blog posts, landing pages, white papers, or case studies.

As a freelance writer, you may be paid per word or per article. This is a lower-cost alternative to the company than hiring full-time staff writers.

Businesses may also hire you on a freelance basis to provide copywriting services for their ads, brochures, email campaigns, and other marketing collateral.

#15. Amazon Mechanical Turk.

Amazon Mechanical Turk is a service that lets you make money online through doing paid microtasks.

Each task is something simple that requires human interaction like rating search results, checking for the right spelling on search terms, categorizing the tone of an article, or even basic translating.

You can do these tasks from anywhere you want and make money online from the world’s largest e-retailer.

#16. Invest in Cryptocurrency.

Chances are cryptocurrency appeared on your radar with the huge Bitcoin peak. However, even if you didn’t invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies a few years ago, it isn’t too late.

Investing in cryptocurrency is a lot like any other form of investing, and there will be some risks involved.

But, by taking the time to educate yourself you can make some sound investments that’ll pay off in the long-run.

The first step in your cryptocurrency adventure is to get your knowledge and skills up to speed.

BitDegree is a great resource that’s full of useful tutorials and courses that’ll get your cryptocurrency knowledge up to speed.

There are multiple approaches to earn money off cryptocurrency including:

  1. Investing in coins before they IPO, or grow in value
  2. Learning how to program and work with blockchain
  3. Become a cryptocurrency writer
  4. Getting a job at a cryptocurrency startup

Since cryptocurrency and blockchain technology are still in their beginnings, it’s a great time to learn the necessary skills to position yourself for future success.

#17. Become a Virtual Assistant.

Income Potential:  $500-$10,000+ per month

As a virtual assistant, you get to choose the services you offer.

For example, you can provide customer service and administrative support by scheduling appointments, managing databases, or planning travel arrangements.

You can also offer more creative services like planning events or managing social media.

Your efforts save business owners time so they can focus on other tasks.

#18. Sells Products on a Shopify Store.

If you’re serious about making money selling things online, it’s pretty much impossible to not recommend Shopify.

The platform gives you everything you need to get your online store up and running in less than a day including a custom domain, beautiful templates (so you don’t need design skills), secure payment options, and they can even take care of marketing and shipping for you.

Whether you’re promoting your own products, designs, or curating other products for people in your niche, Shopify is the best option for powering your online store.

#19. Sell Your Crafts and Art on Etsy.

Etsy is the most popular online marketplace for handmade goods and crafts.

From bracelets to phone cases, rings, furniture, and more, Etsy is perfect for anyone who is creative and wants to sell their handmade creations.

As long as you have the space, this can make for one of the best ways to make money online that can be started with a very limited investment.

Consider these 5 steps to starting an Etsy store, from Handmadeology.

While Etsy is a great place to get in front of potential customers who wouldn’t have otherwise found you, once you’re up and running and have built a decent audience, you can move your store over to Shopify and retain a larger portion of the income you make from selling your goods.

#20. Become an Influencer on Instagram.

Build up a following on your Instagram account and you could quickly be making extra money online.

Major brands, gear companies, and even startups are willing to shell out $500-$5,000+ per post to get in front of your audience.

While it’s getting harder and harder to build a massive Instagram audience, if you already have a solid niche and are posting quality content regularly with a great camera for taking Instagram photos, with a few small tweaks you can make yourself an influencer.

Check out this awesome article from Shopify on how to build and grow your Instagram following to get started.

#21. Proofreading.

Income Potential:  $500-$1,000+ per month

Proofreading involves carefully examining text to look for and correct grammar, spelling, and style mistakes.

Bloggers, authors, and even court reporters hire proofreaders to ensure their articles and other written documents are ready for publication or distribution.

You can proofread for all types of clients or choose a niche like education, law, or finance.

#22. Become a Website Developer.

If you don’t have the development skills, then your first step is to learn how to code. Once you have the skills, it’s time to start finding work.

Create a profile on sites like Upwork and Freelancer, and start pitching jobs to get paid.

To increase your chances of success it can be helpful to create a niche for yourself, and craft your profile and portfolio accordingly.

For example, maybe you want to build websites for real estate agents and property management companies. Or, you’d like to specialize in creating eCommerce websites that use WooCommerce and WordPress.

First, make sure there’s a need for your skills, maybe there are a lot of jobs posted for your specific skillset. Then, craft your niche web development business and start pitching relevant jobs.

#23. Social Media Management.

Income Potential:  $2,000-$10,000+ per month

Businesses of all sizes use social media to promote their products and services, position themselves as industry leaders, and create brand awareness.

With a social media management side hustle, you can earn great money by managing the accounts of various businesses.

You’ll create engaging content, post it, and interact with fans or followers on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms.

#24. Sell Stock Photos Online.

If you have a fondness and talent for taking pictures you can make extra money online by becoming a stock photographer and selling your images to a stock photo company like ShutterStock or  iStockPhoto.

You’ll get royalties every time someone licenses an image you’ve submitted.

To really be successful, build your own photography website to be able to showcase your portfolio and start getting higher-paid private corporate work.

#25. Tutoring.

Income Potential:  $1,000-$4,000+ per month

Tutors help students better understand a subject. You may tutor a high school or college student in chemistry or calculus or a second-grader in English.

As long as you consider yourself patient and an expert in a specific subject, you can earn additional income by tutoring.

You may offer tutoring services to young children, teenagers, college students, or even adults.

Depending on the age and location or your students, you can meet at their homes, coffee shops, local libraries, or virtually.

#26. Start an Online T-Shirt Business.

It’s sometimes hard to comprehend just how much people love t-shirts. And with the right niche, marketing and tools, you can create an online t-shirt business that makes you extra money online while you sleep.

(Even Bloomberg and Forbes feature stories from entrepreneurs who’ve done just that.)

Services like TeeSpring make it easier than ever to create a t-shirt drop-shipping business where they handle the sales, printing, and shipping, and you’re only responsible for design and marketing.

Or you can even buy into well-established franchise businesses like Rhea Lana that sell fashionable, affordable kids clothing and get the backing of a proven organization to fuel your online sales.

For more tips, check out this simple guide to launching and marketing an online clothing store by my friends over at Selz.

#28. Transcribe Audio and Interviews.

Journalists, doctors, lawyers, academics, and researchers record interviews every single day and need someone to transcribe what’s been said.

So, if you’re comfortable with listening to the same audio over and over while writing it down you can make good money online doing transcriptions.

Most services pay anywhere from $15 to $25 per hour of transcribed audio.

If you specialize and have training in legal or medical transcription you can make even more.

If you’re a beginner transcriptionist you can find jobs at Transcribe Anywhere, TranscribeMe, Quicktate, Rev, Tigerfish, and Crowdsurf.

#29. Data Entry.

Income Potential:  $200-$1,000+ per month

If you choose to start a data entry side hustle, you’ll use computer and data processing programs to enter information into a database.

You may also be required to transcribe data from phone conversations or recordings.

Clients in a variety of industries have the need for data entry professionals.

If you’re detail-oriented, have strong keyboarding skills, and don’t mind lots of typing, data entry may be a good fit.

#30. Sell on Fiverr.

Income Potential:  $100-$1,000+ per month

Fiverr is known as the largest freelance marketplace in the world. You can use Fiverr to sell a variety of services including article writing, editing, logo design, website support, voiceovers, and homework help.

As long as you find a service people are willing to pay for, you can make money on Fiverr.

#31. Online Travel Consultant.

If you love to travel and find yourself randomly searching for airfare sales or browsing Lonely Planet, why not carve out a niche for yourself as a private travel agent?

My friend, Mark Jackson did just that, making extra money online with his travel consulting side business.

Start with word of mouth recommendations from friends who know they can count on you for the cheapest flights, and then move on and create a Facebook or LinkedIn group to invite people who want to stay on top of the latest deals.

Eventually you could spin this into a full-time consultancy teaching people how to make their dream trips a reality.

The Bottom Line

There are a ridiculous number of ways to make money online and the ones I’ve covered here are just the tip of the iceberg. If you have time, a passion for almost anything, and at least some creative skill, you may be able to build an online income stream — or several — if you give it enough time.

But, don’t just take my word for it. If you look online, you’ll find thousands of success stories you can use for inspiration.

One day you could even create a success story of your own. But you’ll never know unless you try.
